CIM teachers began working with students in 2004. Over these few years, we have watched our students develop into impressive adults as well as musicians. Here are what some of our "graduates" are doing now.
Mattie Ernst, one of CIM's earliest students, played harp and fiddle with the first student ensemble. Mattie is now a junior at the College of St. Benedict/St. John's University pursuing a degree in Theater and Music Composition. She has taught fiddle privately and at the Center for Irish Music during the summer. Mattie continues to be actively involved with the school.
Upon graduation fiddle student Tony Comeau was accepted into the competitive University of Limerick's Irish Academy of Music and Dance Bachelor of Arts program! In addition to his musical studies, Tony began and ran a weekly session while in Ireland. Since his return to Minnesota Tony has performed with the likes of Tommy Martin and Peter Yeates.
While Jasmine An didn't graduate from CIM per se, she spent years with us, and we miss her dearly. Jasmine is now in Ann Arbor, Michigan, where she has found a session that she attends every week. She also competed on fiddle at the 2010 Fleadh in Chicago. Go Jasmine!
Sisters Rebecca and Rowan Garrigan studied at The Center For Irish Music for several years. Since leaving the school, they have remained active in the MN Irish sessions scene and have also formed a band, Garrigan's Quarrel, which has been heard at the Irish Fair Minnesota and other venues in greater Minnesota and Wisconsin. Rebecca says, "Music is my lifelong passion, and I can't thank the Center for Irish Music enough for helping me discover that!"
