This class will cover some of the concepts of music theory as they relate to Irish traditional music. We will learn about key (how to determine what key you’re “in”), scales (modes and pentatonic), chords for accompaniment and in melodies, and rhythm (dance tune types and rhythmic feel). Discussions and assignments will illustrate ways to apply these concepts to making music. This class is great for accompanists and advanced melody players, and for Irish music students with a background in general music theory.
Instructor: Brian Miller
