Based in Dublin, Ireland, The Irish Traditional Music Archives (ITMA) is home to the world's largest collection of materials relating to Irish traditional music. Danny Diamond, ITMA's Field Recordings Officer and a traditional fiddler player in his own right will introduce the audience to the history and functions of the Irish Traditional Music Archive. The lecture will explore the archive's collections of audio field recordings ranging from from 120 year old wax cylinders, to the extensive tape collections of some of the great collectors of Irish folk music, to the field recordings being collected by Archive staff in the present day. Listeners will also be introduced to the Archive's website, where they will be able to access sample materials from the non-commercial collections.
