Tunes Made for Dancing

Solo Irish Set Dances Tunes, Their Origins, and the Dancing Masters who Composed the Dances

This 2 hours intensive workshop is for anyone. 75% Lecture/Demonstration, 25% participation if you'd like. to play or dance along.

Musicians and dancers will receive supplemental material to learn tunes and steps shared in the class.

The Traditional Irish Set Dances (The Garden of Daisies, The Blackbird, St. Patrick's Day, etc...) are beautiful, and often quirky melodies and step patterns. Each tune and dance is steeped in Irish and European history and has its own unique story. In this intensive workshop, Danielle will share the histories and origins of the sets, discuss their unique time signatures, and introduce the regional styles of the dancing masters who created them.

Musicians and dancers will have the opportunity to play and dance some of the sets in the class, and all participants will learn a simple dance step to try with one of the set. Resources to learn and practice the tunes and the dances will be provided post-workshop.
