Open to all CIM youth musicians!
We are thrilled to announce our first-ever Artist In Residence (AIR) program! This new initiative is designed to deepen our connection to the living tradition of Irish music. We are looking forward to welcoming back 2025 Minnesota Irish Music Weekend master artist Sorcha Costello as CIM’s first Artist In Residence this October.
The Center for Irish Music is excited to present a new workshop series: Ceol agus Craic ("Music and Fun"), an immersive afternoon of Irish music learning, listening and playing.
Ceol agus Craic (Key-ohl ah-gus crack) is designed to welcome newcomers to Irish music and provide space for current students to explore something new. There will be two 75-minute workshops and an open session in between (with refreshments).
Mark your calendars for Friday, November 13 and plan to play a tune or two for a friendly, supportive crowd at CJAC's Open Mic Night (sponsored by the Youth Advisory Council). This is a fun chance to hear what others are up to, try out your tunes, and calm your performance nerves! We encourage ALL students to take part! Don't want to do it alone? Grab a friend or two and play together!

Derry guitarist and singer Dáithí Sproule has a large repertoire of songs that have come from friends, mentors, singers, and recordings over a lifetime of travels as a professional musician. In this class, Dáithí will share and teach some great traditional songs in English and Irish with an emphasis on singing them together and making up simple arrangements. It’s sure to be fun!
Having enjoyed presenting classes on Irish language poetry in translation, Dáithí Sproule now offers a 6-week course reading and sharing thoughts and reactions to poetry composed in the English language (mainly!) and drawing from his own area of the country — including poems from Seamus Heaney, Medbh McGuckian, Michael Longley, Leontia Flynn, Ciaran Carson and Cathal Ó Searcaigh.
