Playing with others is both fun and challenging. We are very excited to offer our first ever daytime adult ensemble with fiddle instructor Abbey Roemer. Abbey will be teaching repertoire from the An Luan and Open Sky repertoires, plus some of her own additions. The focus of the ensemble will be on learning how to play with other people on a variety of instruments with great rhythm and style, building about 30 minutes of repertoire (over 8-10 months), and fostering new musical friendships. Abbey performs regularly with the Mná Fiddlers, the Mankato and South Dakota Symphony Orchestras and has taught at the CIM for 3 years.

This ensemble is open to students who have taken at least 1 year (3 terms) of private lessons with a CIM instructor.

Melody players (fiddle, flute, accordion, concertina, whistle, uilleann pipes, banjo, mandolin for example) should be able to play at least 20 tunes by ear solo at a reasonable speed.

Accompanists (guitar, bouzouki, bodhrán etc) should have experience accompanying Irish tunes and be able to choose chords if needed. There is room for one or two accompanists in this group (guitar, bouzouki, bodhrán etc), so please contact Lily at lgaetgaeow@centerforirishmusic.org before registering.

To help ensure that we have a good mix of instruments and balanced abilities in this new group (we are aiming for an intermediate level), we are asking prospective ensemble members to fill out this simple form and email an audio or video file of yourself playing one or two tunes (3 minutes or less of music). Send the track to admin@centerforirishmusic.org by September 8.

Additional Information:

Reminder: All ensemble students need to take regular private lessons from a CIM instructor to be in a CIM ensemble.
