There are multiple local opportunities for students to take part in traditional music competitions. Many of our instructors and parents highly recommend the experience of competing. Music competitions offer a chance for young musicians to:
- Practice tunes with a concrete goal (and deadline) in mind.
- Meet professional instructors and hear their constructive comments. Often the competitions function more like a masterclass or mini-lesson, than a competition.
- Expand his or her repertoire.
The two September feisana come up very quickly for CIM students. Please read through this thoughtful welcome letter for musicians to read instructions on how to register.
- Minneapolis Feis in April
- OID Feis in April (same weekend as the Minneapolis Feis)
- Twin Cities Feile in June
- Northern-Mid America Championship in June
- Minnesota Feis in September
- St. Paul Autumn Feis in September (same weekend as the Minnesota Feis)
